Saint Leo pitcher drafted to Major League Baseball

The Baltimore Orioles selected Saint Leo University left-handed pitcher Jared Beck with the first pick of the 13th round of the 2022 Major League Baseball draft. This makes Beck the 54th Lion to be drafted from Saint Leo University Baseball. At 7 feet tall, Beck is the tallest to play in Major League Baseball.

While playing for the Saint Leo Lions, Beck struck out 105 batters in more than 68 innings and celebrated 36 wins with his team. His pitches have been clocked at 95 MPH.

“I have been through a lot of adversity, but I couldn’t be happier to have played for a team with a different type of drive and heart, from the coaches to the players,” Beck said. “It really made it easy to go out and compete every day. My time at Saint Leo has been a great chapter in my life, and I’m happy I can call it home.”

Saint Leo University focuses on developing the mind, body, and spirit of each student. The university boasts 14 intercollegiate teams involving 450 student-athletes, who compete in NCAA Division II. The Lions are members of the Sunshine State Conference and student-athletes consistently are named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll with GPAs of 3.2 and higher.
